Beneath its surface cheerfulness, the Giga carries the introspective character of the D minor key. To me, it feels like Bach is letting us breathe and move again after the more solemn movements; as if offering a moment of clarity or lightness.
During my solo performance of the Gigue from Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D minor, I aimed to let its lively dance character shine while staying true to its Baroque phrasing and harmonic depth. I focused on clear articulation and lightness in the faster passages, keeping the rhythm buoyant and energetic. At the same time, I shaped each phrase with care, using tone color, dynamics, and subtle stylistic touches to highlight the structure and emotion within the music. My goal was to balance historical style with personal expression, bringing the piece to life with both precision and feeling.
