Fundraiser (Art and Music), YWCA HeART Beats, 2023

At the YWCA HeART Beats Music and Charity Festival on 18 November 2023, I had the opportunity to contribute through both music and art. This event aimed to raise funds for YWCA's community service programmes, supporting women and families in need.

I performed two violin pieces: Vivaldi’s Autumn from The Four Seasons (Allegro movement) as a solo, and the Vivace movement from Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins as a duet with my junior, Yizhou. She played the Violin 2 part while I led as Violin 1. We had practised hard to match our timing and dynamics, and I was proud of how it turned out. Through these performances, I was able to help raise a total of $1,335 for YWCA.

I also contributed two original paintings - Business Rabbit and Santa Fox, to the charity art exhibition. Business Rabbit features a bunny in a dark grey suit and red tie, symbolizing a serious yet cheerful character who works as an engineer. Santa Fox, a close relative of Business Rabbit, is a playful and bubbly fox dressed similarly, who comes out each year to deliver presents to humans. I was inspired by Van Gogh’s light brushstrokes, using colour and texture to bring both characters to life. All proceeds from the sale of my paintings were donated to YWCA in support of their meaningful cause.

Participating in this event was especially meaningful to me because it supported programmes that empower women and children, and provide essential services to families in need. It reminded me that even small contributions can make a significant impact in our community.
